Two highly qualified and experienced physicists have joined the advisory board for Scanwel Ltd as Non-Executive Directors. The aim of the appointments is to help the business in its ambition to grow, develop into new sectors and bring new technologies to market. Scanwel is a leading provider of expert solutions in vacuum, surface and nanoscience technology, and Evan Parker and David Williams come on board at an exciting point in the company’s journey.
Evan Parker combines a lifetime primarily in academia but working closely with the industrial sector which included spinning out two companies – the first in solar cells and the second in quantum sensors. He held the Chair in Semiconductor Physics at the University of Warwick for many years. He has been at the forefront of research and development involving Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) technology, developing ultraclean conditions and growth techniques for thin semiconductor layers. Several of his research students who have gone on to become world leaders in their respective fields.
David Williams holds a PhD in Semiconductor Physics. David became involved also in the application of UHV technology, before starting an MOD-sponsored research fellowship. This led to an illustrious career further developing applications for UHV technology and becoming the CEO of a major company supplying some of the world’s top academic and industrial research laboratories with layer growth systems. This included the development of new-generation mobile phone technologies.
Developing new technology applications
The combined knowledge of these two experts will strengthen the already solid foundations of the Scanwel business. Evan Parker commented on his appointment to the board: “I am excited and very much looking forward to working with the Scanwel team and sharing my knowledge and insights to help them develop new products and move into new areas of business”.
David Williams added: “After working for many years in various business sectors in the UHV field, I have an understanding of the marketplace and the dynamics of growing a business. The UHV sector is now much more mature, and this brings with it its own challenges. There are always new opportunities where new applications arise, but it’s also important to understand the motivation and needs of existing and new customers”.
